The New Forest & Hampshire County Show with Phil, Derek & Wendy

The beautifully sunny weather set the tone for our brilliant holiday!  Our very spacious accommodation was a stunning converted stable block with a fantastic garden surrounded by fields of horses.

Our first day at the County Show was packed full of amazing things. We watched horses in hand, incredible show jumping, old time farm vehicles, a breath taking motorbike stunt show, a tug of war and a very funny sheep shearing show!  We visited the animal pens to get a closer look at the many different breeds.  We saw pigs, goats, bulls, sheep!  We picnicked in the cool shade of the woodland area.

Our second visit to the show was equally as brilliant and we watched the magnificent heavy horses pulling their carriages.  We sampled local beer, ducked into amazing food tents, enjoyed a colourful flower show and looked at the huge variety of fruit and veg.  The hunting hounds paraded in the countryside ring and some of us won money by betting on the ferret racing!  Our senses were really bought to life with so many vibrant things going on!

Not only did we spent two days at the County Show, we also spent a day at the famous and very beautiful Beaulieu Motor Museum.  We all loved seeing so many different vehicles, old and new, and had fun travelling on the monorail and the old fashioned bus!  We even sat in pods to travel through the history of motor vehicles. We went to the beautiful, historic house and were entertained by some actors in period costume and some wonderful singers.  What fun we had!

We spent a morning at the Boscombe Aviation Collection where we saw an impressive selection of aircraft, lovingly restored  by volunteers.  We had an enthusiastic guide who made the tour fun and interesting!  We got to sit in the cockpits of the planes just like real pilots!

We spent the afternoon in Salisbury and visited the splendid Salisbury Cathedral.  We did some souvenir and gift shopping and stopped for a refreshing drink in the town square.  On another day we ventured to the pretty village of Burley where we saw lots of lovely wild donkeys and enjoyed delicious ice creams in the sunshine!

During our holiday we had heaps of fun celebrating Robert's 60th birthday. we gave him presents and spoilt him with a scrumptious birthday cake!

We had all had a FANTASTIC holiday and, in a week packed full of adventures, the County show was everybody's highlight!
