Yorkshire Dales TV & Soap Country with John & Pat

We couldn't possibly describe how excited we were setting off on our holiday to the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.  Arriving at our lovely accommodation, we unpacked and set out to explore our local area.  We had a delightful evening meal at the local pub in the village square, where locals chatted to us and made us feel welcome! Everywhere was decked out with yellow bikes and bunting for the Tour De France!

We had a drink in the Woolpack where of course, Emmerdale is filmed!  We felt like stars ourselves as we had our photo's taken at the bar.  How amazing to be in the pub that we all see on TV at home!  We also visited Betty's famous tea rooms and had a very posh tea indeed - what fun!

The weather was absolutely brilliant for most of the week, with brilliant blue skies, allowing us to have several picnics overlooking some stunning countryside.  We went to "The Stray" in Harrogate, where there were enchanting gardens and lush green open spaces.

We visited Holmfirth,  The Last of the Summer Wine Country, and on the way, took a trip to The Carding Factory where we saw some beautiful vintage motorbikes, cars and bicycles.  We ate our lunch in Sid's cafe and felt like we were 'on set'!  Our Summer Wine bus tour was excellent and we loved learning all about the well loved programme. We even visited the museum!

We had a wonderful steam train ride from Pickering to Goathland where we explored the stunning Heartbeat Country! What an adventure it was as we stepped back in time and journeyed through beautiful rural scenery in our cosy wood-panneled carriages.
One evening we went to Ripon where we watched a ceremonial horn blower, a tradition which has gone on for 1,200 years! He gave all of our group a commemorative medal.

On another glorious day, we went to to Jervaulx Abbey ruins and took in the impressive views.  Then off to the Wensleydale Cheese Factory where we saw the entire cheese making process!  It was fascinating and we all got to sample some after.  We stopped by a river on the way home and skimmed stones and paddled our feet.  It was very refreshing!

We visited Bolton Abbey where we played boules and Frisbee, then headed onto the quaint little village of Grassington and ambles round leisurely, dipping into some charming little shops and watched a crown green bowling competition.
We all left feeling invigorated, refreshed and having had a LOT of fun!

  1. I had a great holiday in The Yorkshire Dales. Pat and John looked after us really well. They gave us tea in bed, cooked breakfast every day and lovely picnics and barbecues. I liked going on the steam train, the cheese factory, Betty's tea rooms and having a drink in The Woolpack. We had lots of fun and laughed a lot. I would like to go on another Jollydays holiday with Pat and John soon. From Sabah
