Yorkshire Dales with John & Candy

We had a delightful holiday in the glorious Yorkshire Dales.  Our accommodation was a tranquil haven set amongst rolling hills and a lovely winding river.  Our rooms were spacious and homely and we settled in right away.
Our  morning alarm call was the sound of baby lambs bleating across the fields.

Throughout our stay in Yorkshire we visited many beautiful places.  We took a scenic drive through the lush countryside to Burnsall where we had a leisurely walk.  We saw a wonderful brass band and ambled around some stalls at a lively village fete!
We had a delicious lunch in The Woolpack pub (where of course, Emmerdale is filmed!).  It was great to see where all the filming take place - we almost felt like actors ourselves! We then went to Harrogate and sampled some of Betty's finest cake, which was simply scrumptious!

The following morning we set off for "Last of the Summer Wine" country, stopping off first at Jackson Bridge and then the Carding Shed where we looked at some impressive vintage racing cars, motor cycles, bicycles and retro articles.  It was then off to Holmfirth where we lunched at Sid's Café before taking the fantastic Summer Wine tour!

On another day we visited the Wensleydale cheese factory where we watched the cheese making process which was highly informative and fun to watch!  We watched them making a film about cheese and then we were able to taste some of the delicious cheese ourselves.   We also drove to Pickering station where we caught the North Yorkshire Railway steam train to Goathland, where we explored the famous "Heartbeat" area.  This was followed by a trip to Whitby beach where we did some paddling and played Frisbee!

On our last full day we headed into the beautiful city of York.  We wandered around impressed by its historic beauty.  We then had an exciting visit to the Castle museum where we saw an old Victorian street with very old shops!  Everyone agreed that it was like being zapped back in time!  We had all enjoyed a truly super holiday and everyone said how much they would love to do it all again next year!
