French Countryside & Coast with Adrian & Mags

We all met up and excitedly took the ferry to Calais.  We had a delicious lunch on board to set us up for the journey.  We enjoyed the short, picturesque drive to find our beautiful gite and got settled in.  After freshening up we went into the enchanting town of Hesdin for a lovely French meal.  After dinner we enjoyed a few drink and headed back for our exciting first night!
During our week away we visited the lovely Hardelot Plage for a walk along the prom and had a delicious light lunch. We drove home through some of the most beautiful countryside that France has to offer.  We took a very enticing visit to the chocolate factory in Beussant. The smell was overpowering and made us want to buy lots of chocolates!  The owner sent us out some tasters which were truly scrumptious.

Although we had a morning of drizzle, we didn't let it dampen our spirits!  We took a visit to the beautiful Le Touquet, and once the rain had stopped we had a very leisurely stroll along the beautiful promenade and enjoyed some ice-creams.  On another day we took a trip to Boulogne.  We had a lovely wander, taking in the historic feel of the town.  We found a lovely French café for lunch and then continued to stroll through the pretty streets, gazing into the patisserie windows!
We took a very scenic drive to St Valery to catch the steam train.  It had a very loud whistle and we loved watching the engine changing ends!!  We had a lovely wander around the town and ambled in and out of the local shops.

One morning we made sandwiches and took a drive to find a lovely picnic spot. We found ourselves ‘on top of the world’ under a wind turbine!! We found the perfect picnic bench just for us.  The view was absolutely stunning.  We then went onto St Gabriel & St Cecil which had beautiful beaches.  Then it was onto Harlot where we had afternoon tea.  We saw lots of people on the beach flying kites and driving sand yachts!  It was quite windy and we felt the sand stinging our legs!  We had dinner in Montreuil and had a wonderful evening together.

We went to some beautiful French restaurants whilst away, and the staff were always smiling and very friendly.  For our breakfasts, we bought fresh bread, pan au chocolats and of course the option of a hearty cooked breakfast!

As usual the last day had come too soon.  After a lovely filling breakfast we packed our things and made our journey back to the ferry.  We were all buzzing from a superb holiday!  We had lunch on the ferry and chatted about our favourite parts of the holiday.
